Submitting Your Work to Fiction

Before submitting to Fiction

The Market List recommends you verify the market is active and accepting submissions before sending your manuscript via regular mail. You may verify a market status by either visiting their website, calling their listed phone number, or confirming via regular mail that the market is still active before sending them your work.

To be sure your submission is appropriate for this market, we recommend you familiarize yourself with Fiction by reading a sample issue before submitting.

If you have recently submitted to Fiction or have experience with this market, please submit a comment below. Recent submission response times are always welcome and helpful to other writers.

From the Fiction guidelines:

  • We do not accept science fiction, romance, erotica, young adult fiction, etc.  What we are looking for the best new writing available, leaning toward the unconventional. We do accept a variety of genres including but not limited to: experimental, satire, literary, translations, and contemporary.

  • As the name implies, we publish only fiction. Please remember: no scripts, plays, poetry, hybrid works, non-fiction, or unsolicited interviews.

  • While we have historically considered excerpts of novels for publication, we cannot publish novels in their entirety and are unable to read entire novels submitted to us. If you wish to submit an excerpt of an unpublished novel to us, we ask that you identify this in your cover letter and only submit the selection of your novel that you would like to be considered, rather than the full manuscript.
