Submitting Your Work to Pearl

Before submitting to Pearl

The Market List recommends you verify the market is active and accepting submissions before sending your manuscript via regular mail. You may verify a market status by either visiting their website, calling their listed phone number, or comfirming via regular mail that the market is still active before sending them your work. To be sure your submission is appropriate for this market, we recommend you familiarize yourself with Pearl by reading a sample issue before submitting.

If you have recently submitted to Pearl or have experience with this market, please submit a comment below. Recent submission response times are always welcome and helpful to other writers.

From the Pearl guidelines:

Please send poems and short fiction separately. Submissions are accepted January through June only. Manuscripts received between July and December will be returned unread.

We prefer poems no longer than 40 lines, though we occasionally consider longer ones. Our format and page size, however, will not accommodate lines of more than 10-12 words. So unless you're Walt Whitman or Allen Ginsberg, please consider your line breaks.

We only consider short-short stories up to 1200 words (about 5 manuscript pages). Longer stories (up to 4000 words) may be submitted to our short story contest only.
