Kate McKean

Kate McKean is vice president of the Howard Morhaim Literary Agency, where she has worked since 2006. She began her publishing career at the University Press of Florida and holds a master’s degree in fiction writing from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her clients include bestselling and acclaimed authors such as Alix E. Harrow, Daniel M. Lavery, and Bobby Finger. McKean has also taught as an adjunct professor at New York University and is the author of WRITE THROUGH IT: An Insider’s Guide to Publishing and the Creative Life and the picture book PAY ATTENTION TO ME. She also writes the Agents & Books newsletter.

McKean represents adult, young adult, and middle grade fiction, with particular interests in contemporary and literary fiction, 20th-century historical fiction, LGBTQ themes, fantasy, and science fiction, especially stories set in space. In nonfiction, she is interested in authors with established platforms writing about pop culture, creativity, and crafts such as sewing and knitting. She also represents graphic novels for all ages and children’s picture books.
