The Market List (“we,” “us”) operates this website. We are a public directory of writers’ markets, literary agent profiles, and articles. We do not offer public member accounts or logins.

Information we collect

  • Contact form. Name, email address, subject, message, and your IP address (for abuse prevention). There is no site newsletter.
  • Free book advertising. When you submit an ad: book title, blurb, Amazon link/ASIN, email address, optional cover image URL fetched from Amazon, confirmation status, and IP address. We may later email that address about renewing a free ad when monthly space is available. That is not a marketing newsletter.
  • Automatic / third-party. Google Analytics may collect usage data (pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser). Google AdSense and related ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies. Google reCAPTCHA may process data when you submit forms. See Google’s privacy policies for those services.
  • Staff admin. Separate admin credentials are used only by site operators and are not a public membership system.

How we use information

  • To reply to contact messages and review market tips you send.
  • To confirm, review, display, rotate, and (when relevant) offer renewal of free book ads.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the site, including understanding traffic and preventing spam.
  • To show advertising (Google AdSense and approved author ads).

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run a Marketlist newsletter or marketing list.

Sharing

We share data only with service providers needed to run the site, for example:

  • Google (Analytics, AdSense, reCAPTCHA)
  • Our email/SMTP provider (to send confirmation or contact-related mail)
  • Amazon (when we resolve cover images or links from an ASIN you provide)

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the site and its users.

Cookies and similar technologies

Analytics and advertising partners may set cookies or use local storage. Browser controls can block or delete cookies; some site features (including ads) may not work as intended if you do.

How long we keep information

  • Contact messages: up to 12 months, or sooner after we have finished responding, unless we need them longer for a dispute or legal reason.
  • Author ads — unconfirmed: typically deleted or purged within about 7 days if the email link is never confirmed.
  • Author ads — pending or rejected: typically up to 90 days after the decision or last activity.
  • Author ads — approved: for as long as the ad may run, then typically up to 90 days after removal, so we can handle renewals or questions. Email for renewal offers is used only for that purpose.
  • IP addresses on form submissions are kept with the related record for the same period.

You can ask us to delete contact or advertising-related personal data via the contact form (choose General Query or Advertising). We may keep minimal records if required for security or legal compliance.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
