Barry Goldblatt is the founder of Barry Goldblatt Literary LLC, which he established in 2000 after more than a decade working in children's publishing and subsidiary rights. Before becoming an agent, he worked at Dutton Children's Books, Dial Books for Young Readers, Putnam/Grosset, and Orchard Books, where he served as Rights and Contracts Director. Over his career he has represented numerous bestselling and award-winning writers of books for children and young adults.
Goldblatt's interests center on children's, middle grade and young adult fiction, graphic novels, fantasy and science fiction, with current submission categories also including New Adult and adult speculative fiction. He has historically favored character-driven work with distinctive, quirky, edgy or offbeat qualities. Barry Goldblatt accepts submissions through QueryManager rather than by email.
Writers should complete the online form with the manuscript title, word count, genre, query letter, and synopsis. The form also asks whether any part of the book or query package was created using AI and whether the book has previously been published.
For fiction, upload the first 50 pages of the manuscript. For nonfiction, the form instructs writers to upload the full book proposal instead. Sample artwork or illustrations may also be uploaded when applicable. Accepted file types are DOC, DOCX, and PDF, with a 2 MB file-size limit.
Goldblatt is currently seeking children’s books, middle grade, young adult, graphic novels, New Adult, fantasy, and science fiction. His current QueryManager form does not impose specific manuscript word-count limits.
After submitting, writers receive a personalized QueryManager status link that can be used to monitor the query. If Goldblatt requests additional material, notification is sent through QueryManager and by email.
