The Book Group Submission Guidelines:
Thank you for seeking us out, and for considering The Book Group as a place to send your work. Please take a look at our recently published and upcoming titles to get an idea of the kinds of books we represent.
When you’re ready to send us your submission, please:
- Review our agents in “Our Team” and determine who you’d like to query
- Email your query letter, addressed to the agent, to submissions@thebookgroup.com
- Below your query, paste your first 10 pages in the body of the email
- In the subject line of your query email, please write the name of the agent to whom you are submitting. This will automatically send your query to the appropriate agent’s query box. (If you don’t do this, it will just take a little longer to get to the right person.)
Things to remember:
- We cannot open attachments and queries with attachments will not be read
- We only accept electronic queries sent to submissions@thebookgroup.com, and do not accept paper queries or queries sent to any other inbox. All queries sent directly to agents or to another inbox will be deleted.
- You are welcome to submit to more than one TBG agent at a time. Please send each agent a separate email addressed to them, and let us know that you’ve submitted to multiple agents on our team in the body of your query letter.
- We do not represent theatrical work or screenplays.
- We do not accept queries or materials written by AI.
We receive so many queries that we aren’t able to respond individually to each one. The agent to whom you sent your query will be in touch as soon as possible if they would like to pursue your work. If you don’t hear from an agent within three months, it means we’re declining the opportunity to represent you.
We understand that you may have sent your query to other agencies. If you receive an offer of representation from another agency, we’d be grateful if you could let us know by sending another email with “offer of representation” in the subject line.

Please do not send queries or submissions via registered or certified mail, or by FedEx or UPS requiring signature. We will not return unsolicited submissions weighing more than 16 ounces, even if an SASE is attached.
