About Nancy Yost

Nancy Yost is the founder of the Nancy Yost Literary Agency and represents a wide range of commercial fiction. She began her publishing career in the contracts department at Random House, later worked as an editor at Avon Books, and spent more than fifteen years as a literary agent before establishing NYLA in 2009. Her client list includes New York Times, USA Today, international bestselling, and award-winning authors.

Yost's primary focus is commercial fiction, particularly crime novels, mysteries, thrillers and suspense; historical fiction and historical suspense; women's fiction; historical romance; romantic comedy; accessible upmarket and book club fiction; urban fantasy and paranormal fiction; and science fiction and fantasy. She looks for complex, engrossing stories driven by strong characters and distinctive voices, with particular appreciation for atmosphere, intelligent writing, humor, effective world-building, Gothic fiction, and ghost stories. Her selective nonfiction interests tend toward subjects involving history, science, and the arts.

Nancy Yost Submission Guidelines

At this time, NYLA only accepts queries through QueryTracker. Links to each agent's QueryTracker submission form can be found on our About Us page.

Please read each of our bios carefully and choose one agent to query. We work together closely and will share your work if we feel it is a better fit for a colleague. Response time will vary by agent.

Please note that we do not accept queries via email, phone, social media, or post. Additionally, we do not accept any materials written by or with the use of AI.

We have been made aware of various accounts impersonating our agents (and many other literary agents and editors) over email. All communication from the NYLA team will come from our official email addresses or via QueryTracker rather than a generic provider (i.e., Gmail, AOL, Yahoo, etc.). Please know that no NYLA agent will ever ask for upfront fees of any kind. And if you remain unsure if you have been contacted by one of our agents, please reach out to us via our Contact Form.
