About Me
Work in Progress by author and now publisher, Sonya Lowe has been undisputedly titled a classic. While working as a Human Resources Manager for an auto manufacturer and juggling motherhood in Los Angeles, Sonya Lowe completed her first novel, Work in Progress. Sonya submitted her story over a period of three months to five different publishers, all of whom embraced the book, its concept and her mission to empower women by making them laugh at those things that make them want to cry.
She was born Sonya Young on October 6th, the youngest of four children, to Albert (RIP) and Tommie Young. Being a product of inner city Los Angeles, she always took her education seriously. Graduating from the renowned George Washington Preparatory High School paved the way for her to receive her BA in Journalism with Public Relations emphasis in 1992 from California State University, Long Beach. Being a textbook overachiever, she went on to attend West Los Angeles University, School of Law where she received a Jurist Doctorate. She received her MBA in Urban Marketing in May 2013.
Her professional experience includes CEO and Founder of Women with Wings, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and their families nationwide through mentorship and employment-related services that encourage and uplift women who have, somewhere along the way, lost their footing and need “the village” in order to get back on track.
As the CEO of MADE Publishing, Sonya is committed to publishing empowering stories written by men and women of color that will help to encourage dialogue between the sexes and bring positive resolve to some of the many issues that cripple our communities. “It’s no longer about me but about those lives that are changed by the positive images I hope to bring forward and those voices that haven’t been heard in the past,” she recently told Women of Los Angeles Magazines. Sonya has been a ghost writer for some very well-known authors and has 3 books to her own credit. Her byline is Sincerely Sonya and she writes for various online magazines such as Examiner.com, Open Salon, She Inspired, and editor of Tyra Banks’ online magazine, Type F.
With her publishing company flourishing Sonya Lowe is concentrating on juggling her film projects under her film companies, Sonya Lowe Films and MADE Films, Inc., and publishing the works of new authors as well as building her non-profit organization, The Sonya Lowe Foundation. The foundation will donate proceeds from selected novels to the Sonya Lowe Scholarship Fund, which is designed to provide financial assistance to inner city youth interested in pursuing a career in journalism and literary arts.
She is a divorced mother of two who resides just outside of Los Angeles and her story is one that is sure to motivate and inspire women and writers everywhere, as she has persevered through unbelievable challenges to emerge triumphant –a shining example of how one must always pursue unimaginable dreams.
Her books, "Work in Progress" and "I'm Telling", are available at online retailers, such as barnesandnoble.com and amazon.com; look for "The Anatomy of a Man" in stores in late-2014. Contact Sonya by email sincerelysonya@mail.com or her website; www.iamsonyalowe.com.
