Rutgers University Press is an academic and general-interest university press publishing scholarly and crossover nonfiction in the humanities, social sciences, health, regional studies, and related fields. Prospective authors may submit proposals directly to the appropriate acquisitions editor. The press does not publish fiction, poetry, or children’s books.

Proposal requirements
A proposal should generally include a short introductory email, CV, and two sample chapters, along with:
- 250-word summary
- 1–2 page rationale
- Intended audience
- Table of contents with chapter descriptions
- Estimated word count and illustration requirements
- Project completion schedule
- Recent competing/comparable books
- At least four potential scholarly peer reviewers
