About Melissa Flashman
Melissa Flashman is a senior literary agent at Janklow & Nesbit Associates, which she joined in 2017 after more than a decade as an agent at Trident Media Group. She began her publishing career in the literary department at ICM and has also worked in radio, advertising, and magazine and first-serial rights. Flashman represents award-winning and bestselling authors across both fiction and nonfiction.
In nonfiction, she is interested in journalism, science, technology, business, finance, economics, memoir, narrative nonfiction, self-help, wellness, essays, and cultural criticism, particularly books with the potential to influence public conversation. In fiction, she represents both literary and commercial work and is drawn to stories exploring family, identity, love, and larger questions about life, as well as strong page-turners. Her clients have received major honors including the Pulitzer Prize, Windham-Campbell Prize, Whiting Award, National Book Critics Circle Award, Rona Jaffe Award, and Hugo Award.

- Nonfiction: Send an informative description, a full outline, and the first ten pages of the manuscript. Include the sample pages in the body of the email below your query.
- Picture Books: Send an informative description, a full outline, a picture book dummy, and at least one full-color sample. Attach the picture book dummy as a PDF and the full-color samples as JPEG or PDF files.
- Graphic Novels: Send ten illustrated pages with text as a PDF attachment and include a synopsis in the body of the email below your query.
