About Sandy Lu

Sandy Lu is the founder of Book Wyrm Literary Agency and has more than a decade of experience as a literary agent. Before establishing her own agency, she worked with several boutique agencies, including the Peter Rubie Literary Agency, Anderson Literary Management, and the L. Perkins Agency. Born and raised in Taiwan, Lu moved to New York at age sixteen. She holds degrees in psychology and sociology from Queens College and also studied social and personality psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center.

In fiction, Lu looks for distinctive voices, compelling plots, memorable characters, historical fiction, atmospheric settings, and stories with dark, unusual, or supernatural elements. Her nonfiction interests include accessible treatments of complex research, science, history, practical ideas, and projects that make unexpected connections between subjects or offer new ways of understanding the world. Her background in psychology, sociology, business, and the theater industry informs her broad range of interests.

Hints

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace. A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
