How to Submit to Alec Shane and Writers House

Writers House represents writers of fiction and nonfiction for both adult and juvenile audiences, as well as illustrators. Its agents work across literary and commercial fiction, women’s fiction, science fiction and fantasy, narrative nonfiction, history, memoir, biography, psychology, science, parenting, cookbooks, how-to, self-help, business, finance, young adult and juvenile fiction and nonfiction, and picture books. The agency works with authors at all stages of their careers.

Writers should email an individual agent with a query letter that includes their credentials, an explanation of what makes the book distinctive, and a synopsis, along with the first 10 pages pasted into the body of the email. Some agents have different requirements, so writers should review each agent’s individual Publishers Marketplace profile for specific submission instructions and genre interests.

Writers House generally responds to queries within six to eight weeks. Because the agency receives a large volume of submissions, response times may vary. If a manuscript is requested, the agency prefers to receive it on an exclusive basis.

Do not query two Writers House agents at the same time. If the first agent passes on the project, writers may then submit to another agent at the agency.
