For example, in YA boy meets girl and falls immediately in love. In YA fantasy, it's often main character discovers magical power he/she didn't know they had, but must use it to fulfill prophecy to save the world. In thrillers - amnesia victim discovers he is a superspy killing machine. And so on. Every genre has them. Novice writers often go down that path when they begin because we do enjoy those stories - when they are done well. But when they are not, the reviews can be ravaging.  less
